Digital tools are now a fixture in any teacher’s arsenal, whether you're returning to a traditional classroom or continuing with remote teaching. Here are ten of the best digital education software tools out there.

Google Classroom

Google Classroom is a free online software that allows teachers to set assignments, grade, share with students, and make announcements. It is used by over 150 million users and integrates with Google’s many tools including Google Docs, Google Meet, Google Drive, Gmail, and others.

Classdojo

Classdojo is an online sharing and communications platform for K-12 education used by over 52 million students. The platform aims to foster a sense of community, allowing teachers to share and document class happenings with parents. Other features include assigning tasks, sharing photos and videos, scoring students and class behavior, and a messaging service with translations for 35 languages.

Edmodo

Edmodo is an online Learning Management System (LMS) for K-12 teachers with over 100 million users. The system is similar to a social media platform and enables teachers to manage their classroom digitally. Teachers can share homework and assignments, schedule online tests, track student progress and performance, and interact and communicate with students.

Thinglink

Thinglink is an award-winning education tool used by over four million students and teachers to enhance various media formats by embedding images, videos, audio recordings, and more. The tool is integrated with Microsoft 365 and allows for interactive content sharing with OneNote and Microsoft Teams.

Seesaw

Seesaw is a student engagement tool used in over 150 countries and in 3 out of 4 schools in the US. Students can create content to showcase and document their learning, teachers can distribute and collect homework and share feedback, and parents can use it to stay informed about their child’s education.

Blackboard

Blackboard is a virtual learning platform used by schools, universities, companies and governments. The platform is very customizable and allows teachers and institutions to build courses using a variety of features that emulate a real classroom environment, from lesson plans to calendars and much more. The platform serves 100 million users across 90 countries.

Digiexam

Digiexam is an online platform that lets teachers and schools securely create high-stakes exams that can be adapted to student accessibility needs. Teachers can co-create, co-grad, and give feedback. The technology works both online and offline on PC, Mac, Chromebook, and iPad. Over 900 schools have used Digiexam with 6,212,882 exams taken to date.

Parlay

Parlay is a discussion-based learning tool that encourages students to develop their critical thinking, discussion, and feedback skills by engaging in deep, meaningful dialogue. Teachers can create a discussion prompt or choose from a variety of ready-made prompts on various topics. Students can then engage in a written online or live verbal discussion around the topic. Teachers have the option to assess responses and give feedback.

Edpuzzle

Edpuzzle is an easy-to-use video editing tool used by 70% of schools in the US. Edpuzzle makes it simple for teachers to use video as an engagement tool. Personal or web-based videos can be edited and embedded with additional features such as questions, audio, resources and more. Videos can also be exported and shared with other classes. The tool is compatible with Google Classroom, Blackboard, Canvas, and more.

Smallpdf

Smallpdf is a PDF management suite used by over 500 million users worldwide for all their paperless needs. Its suite of 20+ PDF tools lets teachers and students perform a variety of document handling tasks including e-signing, compressing, editing, and more. Smallpdf works across desktop and mobile devices and has integrations with some of the most commonly used programs and software including Gmail, Chrome, Dropbox and G Suite (now Google Workspace).
